Venue Details

The evening kicks of at the Exeter Corn Exchange when the doors open at 7:00pm. With 30 minutes before the Beginner Classes start there is plenty of time to get a drink at the bar, find a seat and generally find you way around the venue getting to know a few people along the way.

Then at 7:30pm the Beginner Classes start and everybody gets to learn a Beginner routine in Modern Jive in the Main Hall or in a side room for West Coast Swing, this takes about 40 to 45 minutes. During the classes people move round every couple of minutes so you learn faster and get to meet the rest of the class. After the class a few minutes of music is played during which time some people dance, some practice and some just chat.

Then at about 8:30pm the second classes start, Core Intermediate Modern Jive in the Main Hall and Intermediate West Coast Swing in a side room, these are for intermediate dancers and again last for 40 to 45 minutes during which time there is also Modern Jive Beginner Coaching in another side room. West Coast Swing music is now played in a side room for the rest of the night until closing at 11pm.

In the Main Hall there is music until about 9:30 and then an Advanced Intermediate Modern Jive class is taught. This is shorter, lasting about 30 minutes. The Advanced Intermediate Modern Jive Class is about Advanced Intermediate moves every other week and on the weeks in-between is a technique class. The Advanced Intermediate Move Classes are aimed squarely at experienced dancers but the technique classes are often useful even for relatively new dancers.

When the Advanced Intermediate Class has finished the music starts up again and people dance and socialise until 11pm. The music played covers most styles of music from the 1940's right through to the current chart. There are tunes to cater for everybody's taste and if there is a specific song you would like to hear you just have to ask.
